Annual ‘FashionAble’ Style Show
2 p.m. at Jefferson High School, 723 Donaldson Ave. Vogue-conscious youth with special needs no longer must choose between fashion and function now that they have their very own line of couture. Disabled youngsters from throughout South Texas once again are modeling attire designed exclusively for them by the host school’s Fashion Design program. Working in conjunction with Nora Oyler, executive director of the local Spina Bifida Association of Texas Inc., advanced apparel students created clothes modified to accommodate each model’s disability. Emcee will be Gordon Hartman, founder of the support organization Gordon Hartman Family Foundation, and his daughter, Morgan, will be among the models. The show will open with a presentation on birth defects by teacher Frank Morales' Advanced Placement biology students. The Fashion Design program is under the direction of teacher Sandy Starr. Proceeds from the $20 admission fee will benefit the Spina Bifida Association.
