Aug. 25 (Sat) — After-School Challenge registration
8 a.m. to noon for all at:

• Davis Middle School, 4702 E. Houston St.

• Brackenridge High School, 400 Eagleland at South St. Mary’s Street

• Edison High School, 701 Santa Monica Drive near Blanco Road

• Highlands High School, 3118 Elgin Ave.

• Jefferson High School, 723 Donaldson Ave.

• Lanier High School, 1514 W. Durango Blvd.

Parents of select elementary and middle school-age children may register their child for an after-school program sponsored by the Calderon Boys & Girls Club, Greater San Antonio All Stars, Positive Beginnings, or the YWCA. Most of the registration sites are for corresponding feeder schools. For details call 224-9623 ext. 123.

Aug. 26 (Sun) — Annual Back-to-School Mass
8 a.m. at San Fernando Cathedral, 115 Main Plaza

SAISD Superintendent Robert J. Durón and other employees plan to join their colleagues from throughout Bexar County at this yearly service to welcome in the new school year and to honor those whose lives are dedicated to educating children.

Dr. Robert J. Durón will be among five District administrators volunteering their time in the classroom to support new educators. Fifth-grade teacher Michael DeTovar won the superintendent’s aid as a door prize during summer orientation.

Aug. 28 (Tues) — School Board meeting – NEW DATE, TIME AND LOCATION
6:30 p.m. at Burbank High School, 1002 Edwards St.

Trustees will adopt the 2007-08 school year budget and set the tax rate.

Aug. 28-29 — ‘Meet the Teacher’ open houses
3:15 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 7 p.m. at Graebner Elementary School
530 Hoover St.

Parents of 3rd- through 5th-graders can make the acquaintance of their child’s teachers on Tuesday, while Wednesday’s get-together is for those whose children are in 1st and 2nd grades.

Aug. 30 (Thurs) — ‘Let’s do Lunch!’ application assistance session
4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Food and Child Nutrition Services Department, 806 N. Salado

Parents who need help completing the District’s Free Meals Program form by the Aug. 31 deadline will be assisted. The applications are required in order for SAISD to continue offering breakfast and lunch to all students at no charge.

Sept. 3 (Mon) — Labor Day Holiday
All schools and offices will be closed.
