CHORAL MUSIC I – III Credit: 1.0 ea.

Grades: 9 - 12

Prerequisite: None

Students will learn to sing with expressive and beautiful tone quality, good intonation, correct breathing habits, clear diction, fine blend, and artistic interpretation. Sight-reading, performance skills, and listening skills will also be developed.

COMPUTER MUSIC I Credit: 1.0

Grades: 9 – 12

Prerequisite: None

This course will allow the students to explore music composition and editing using the computer. The students will use various software titles to create composition projects, edit their own compositions and create remixes of pre-recorded music. The students will also learn how to incorporate video into their projects.

COMPUTER MUSIC II Credit: 1.0

Grades: 10– 12

Prerequisite: Computer Music I

This course will build on Computer Music I. Students will use piano skills to add melody lines to compositions, learn recording techniques, and add vocal parts to their compositions.

MARCHING BAND I - IV Credit: 0.5 ea.

Grades: 9 -12 FALL ONLY PE Credit

Prerequisite: Directors Approval or Audition Required 18 weeks

Fine arts or physical education course credit will be given for this class. Marching Band integrates the elements of wind and percussion performance with rhythmic movement, dance, and marching. Includes vigorous physical activity promoting health-related fitness and an appreciation for teamwork and unity. Prior instrumental experience is required. Students will perform at all pep rallies, football games, parades, and marching band contests each year. Yearly summer practices and outside of school practices are required to participate.

Grades: 9 - 12 SPRING ONLY

Prerequisite: Director Approval or Audition 18 weeks

Music based fine arts classes . Band courses teach instrumental skills through participation in solo, small ensemble, and full band performance. Students will be placed in ensemble classes according to instrument need and ability level. Students will perform in concerts and contests each year. Outside of school practices are required to participate. Student will receive Fine Arts credit for this course.

JAZZ BAND I – II Credit: 1.0

Grades: 9 – 12

Prerequisites: Middle School Band or Audition

The Jazz Band class is designed to enhance creative performance in the jazz style. Students will apply expressive and technical skills already introduced to them on their instruments. The students will learn about jazz in relation to history, society, and culture. Instruction will include listening to recordings, watching video presentations, and actual performances.

MARIACHI I – IV (Vocal Ensemble I-IV) Credit: 1.0

Grades: 9 – 12

Prerequisite: None

The Mariachi program is a four-year course of study that takes students from beginner to advanced performing groups. Students learn theory, how to read music, play an instrument, sing a variety of songs, and present themselves in a professional manner. The performing group plays at many functions through the year and is well known throughout the city.
