This nine weeks in my class...

- The students in the Harris Orchestra program are learning how to read music, learning how to hold the instrument, sitting properly, keeping rhythm and playing the instrument all at the same time. Their brain is working hard at doing all of these things at one time in my class. Learning how to play an instrument is a life long gift that I can give to the students that will always stay with them. Every student can learn how to play a an instrument.

- The students are working in the Essential Elements 2000 Book. The students test every week over one of the songs in the book we have gone over to make sure they are understanding what they are comprehending in class. We will be going over eighth notes, eighth rests, repeat signs, sight reading skills, reading the notes on the A string. The students also have daily journals in the class to go over history, writing, reading and math related skills to to prepare for the TAKS test.

This Nine Weeks' Homework:
The students are to go over the names of the notes and where the notes are on the staff on a daily basis

Upcoming Tests:
Every Friday there is a quiz over the last song we went over in class

Daily Conference Time: 11:30-12:30

School(s) Attended:

Texas Lutheran University

Bachelor in Music Education

Teaching Philosophy:

- Music is life. Life is music. Music is a large part of our everyday life. People use music to help patients in hospitals to wake up from commas. Parents use music to stimulate babies brains in the womb. People use music to get them ready before a big game. We also use music as a way for relaxation.
- Students learn in different ways so it is up to me to find a way to show the students the enjoyment of learning how to play an instrument and keeping these skills for their future.
