This nine weeks in my class..
| My students will be conducting labs and studying the scientific processes which includes safety, lab and field procedures. They will also be learning about the Earth, Sun and Moon interactions. Then after this period of exploring the Earth, Sun and Moon, students will study the relationship between cells, tissues, and organs along with the basic processes in living organisms. They will also learn about the systems of the human body and be able to describe their functions. Their studies will also lead them to compare traits of organisms of different species and to recognize that inherited traits of an individual are contained in genetic material. They will also be able to distinguish between dominant and recessive traits. |
|
Students have homework at least twice a week, typically consisting of showing their strategies to answer questions in their TEKS/ TAKS workbook. This nine weeks they will have a project that entails developing a book, model or other means of teaching the Sun, Earth and moon concepts to 3rd graders. The concepts being studied are found in their book Chapters 24, 9,10 and in Holt Science and Technology short course book Chapters 2, 3 and 4. |

| I believe that each student is an unique individual that can learn and can learn how to learn. It is important for me to promote a classroom environment that is positive with high expectations of and for my students. To attain my goal, I use lessons that are well planned with activities that are interesting, motivating and contain interdisciplinary connections. I use a variety of teaching styles to maximize the learning process. I also believe a teacher needs to look beyond the classroom to enrich the students. |
