Welcome to the Stephen F. Austin Academy of Fine Arts, an internal charter school of the San Antonio Independent School District. Our program offers a unique opportunity for students to attain academic achievement through the exploration, learning and development of artistic skills.

Our mission is to provide an enriched learning environment which fosters the academic, creative, emotional, and social development of all students in order to reach their maximum potential through the integration of the Fine Arts.

Our faculty and staff are committed to providing high quality instruction in a positive learning environment focused on personal growth and academic achievement by allowing students to develop and enhance their unique talents and positive attitudes to promote personal success.

Regardless of whether our students choose to pursue their interests in Art, Band, Choir, Drama or Mariachi, we firmly believe that skills learned and honed here will only enhance and fuel our students’ passion for life-long learning.  We feel confident you will find what we have to offer here at the Stephen F. Austin Academy of Fine Arts invaluable to your child’s education.

Sincerely,

Noemi Davila, Principal

New Graduation Requirements (HB 5)

New Graduation Requirements Start with class of 2018

Students entering 9th grade in the 2014-15 school year will be required to meet new graduation requirements passed last legislative session as part of House Bill 5.

At the March 17th Board Meeting, SAISD Trustees approved designating the new Distinguished Level of Achievement graduation plan as the recommended option to start with the class of 2018.

The Distinguished graduation plan is part of House Bill 5's new Foundation High School Program.  The State Board of Education approved final graduation requirements in January.  All SAISD 8th grade students entering the 9th grade in 2014-15 will be enrolled in the Distinguished Level of Achievement plan, which includes Algebra II as one of the graduation requirements.

Community Meetings (listed on district webpage under parents tab - new graduation plan information link) are being held at all middle schools this month to explain the new graduation plan to parents of 8th graders.  Additionally, counselors will meet with incoming freshmen and their parents in August to discuss requirements of the new plan and map out a personal graduation plan.

In addition to serving as a strong college-readiness indicator and putting our students in an advantageous position for college addmissiong and scholarships, the Distinguished Level of Achievement plan also will give students the opportunity to be eligible to graduate in the Top 10 percent of their class, granted they meet other requirements.  Texas students who graduate in the top 10 percent are eligible for automatic admission to a state-funded university.
