|IB Diploma Program|
Luther Burbank High School, the 13th International Baccalaureate School in Texas, is authorized to offer a four-year course of study leading to acquisition of the IB Diploma.
Students in the ninth and tenth grades are enrolled in the Pre-IB program where, through advanced courses, they prepare for the rigorous courses of the IB program.
The second phase, the IB Diploma Programme, is a curriculum of advanced studies for 11th and 12th graders made up of internal and external assessments.
Internal assessments are products performed and graded on the Burbank campus. Selected samples are sent out for International Moderation. External assessments are products performed on the campus and sent out to International IB examiners for grading. In this way, the program offers a cohesive curriculum that meets world class standards.
Students meet state and local requirements for graduation and are recognized by the colleges and universities for the rigorous program they attempted during high school.
As a result, students may be awarded college credit for outstanding performance in specific IB assessments. The state of Texas requires that any state-funded university award 30 hours of college credit to a recipient of the IB Diploma with a minimum of 4 in each IB course.
The IB faculty has participated and received extensive training by experienced International Baccalaureate examiners in workshops and seminars. The Internet connection available in the IB classrooms at Burbank High School allows them to maintain a network of communication with successful IB teachers throughout the world.
Additionally, the faculty has received training in the principles of Gifted& Talented Education and Advanced Placement Curriculum of The College Board.
