Let me begin by welcoming back all returning De Zavala families as well as our new families from Barkley-Ruiz.
My name is Joseph N. Cerna, principal of De Zavala Elementary. This will be my fourth year at at De Zavala Elementary and I anticipate another excellent school year with continued academic growth and strong community involvement. I assure you that academic excellence and student safety will create the foundation for our campus.
I am proud to say that I am a product of SAISD schools: Neal Elementary, Whittier Middle School and Edison High School. I attended the University of Texas at Austin for my Bachelor's Degrees then UTSA for my Master's degree. My experiences in the field of education include the following assignments:
Maverick Elementary (Assistant Principal)
Bowie Elementary (Instructional Coordinator)
Huppertz Elementary (Teacher 3,4,5)
Austin Academy (Teacher 3)
Edgewood ISD (Teacher 3,4,5)
St. Ann's and St. Paul's Catholic Schools (Teacher 5,7,8)
I believe schools have the responsibility of providing students with the experiences and support in order to develop an understanding of the opportunities available and their roles in the community and beyond.
Remember this is your school-together we can make it great.
Our theme this school year is to Successfully Educate All Students (S.E.A.S.).
Believe Achieve Succeed
