Thomas A. Edison High School is an award-winning high school in the San Antonio Independent School District in North Central San Antonio, Texas. The school was opened in 1929 on what is now the present-day campus for Whittier Middle School. In 1958, it was relocated to its current location on 701 Santa Monica Blvd. Serving SAISD, Edison boasts an enrollment of approximately 1700 students. The faculty to student ratio is approximately 1:15 in core subject classes with a non-core class ratio at 1:20. The mascot is the Golden Bear. The school's principal is Charles Muñoz. We offer 13 Advanced Placement courses (AP-College Board) and 14 Pre-AP course. Students also have the choice of enrolling in Dual-Credit. UT of Austin Chem-Bridge college chemistry classes are an option for students interested in science. The college-bound program, AVID, is a great choice for students wanting support preparing for college. Other college-bound support programs are in place on-campus at Edison. We also have a Health Professions & Public Service Magnet Program to which students must apply and be accepted. Enrollment is limited.
GRADING SYSTEM All grades are recorded numerically. Courses are generally divided into semesters, with each semester grade of 70 or higher earning 1/2 credit. Semester grades are averaged and one unit of credit is awarded for the course if the average equals 70 or higher. For GPA computation, Pre-AP classes received 5 additional points; AP classes receive 10 additional points.
STARR REQUIREMENTS As part of the requirement for graduation, all Texas students must demonstrate proficiency in writing, reading, math, social studies and science as measured by the STARR tests.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENT There are three graduating programs endorsed by the Texas Education Agency. The student’s final transcript will show which program the student followed.
