What is Student Council?

 Our student council takes on the responsibility of representing the whole student body. The student council voices the needs, wants and concerns of the student body to the administration (i.e. principals and teachers). They are also responsible for encouraging school spirit through initiating school spirit events such as a school carnival or spirit week.

Why should I Join Student Council?

Joining student council is a fun way to get involved with our school. And it's a great way to make friends and meet new students, improving school issues will definitely get you noticed around the hallways. More importantly, if you have a school complaint, whether it's about class sizes or teacher availability, then you can help to bring about a change by taking a stance and standing up for students' rights. Getting involved gives you the opportunity to improve issues and makes our school a better place.

What is student leadership development?

Student leadership development is the process of involving students in meaningful ways both in and beyond the classroom. It is providing opportunities for students to demonstrate their talents, skills, and interests while continuing to develop new skills. It is also about giving students more ownership of the programs they attend.

Why is it important for our program to develop student leadership?

First and foremost, student input can improve and strengthen programs in ways that the Principal could not do alone. Students bring new energy and ideas to the program. Second, student leadership provides opportunities for students to get involved and to learn skills that can be transferable to the workplace or community. Finally, student leadership deepens each student's commitment to adult literacy and increases the chances that the student will continue to learn.
