Here at Fox Tech High School we are dedicated to preparing students for success in college, career, and life.

Fox Tech is a public, tuition-free, college preparatory magnet high school specializing in medical science and law and public policy. Located in downtown San Antonio, Texas, Fox Tech High School is a part of the San Antonio Independent School District and is open to committed and qualified students living in Bexar County.

The mission of Fox Tech is to graduate all students prepared for success in higher learning. We are committed to fostering a campus-wide culture that is based on positive relationships for all stakeholders and providing rigorous instruction through innovative teaching practices.

Expectations for the Fox Tech High School Graduate

The goal of the Fox Tech curriculum is to prepare students for success in college pre-med and pre-law programs. The coursework in the medical sciences program is designed to support student success on the advanced placement test in biology, and the coursework in the Law and Public Policy program is designed for student success on the advanced placement test in U.S. Government. While the curriculum is grounded in student success on two college placement tests, the Fox Tech faculty is committed to fostering graduates who can think critically, make ethical decisions, conduct independent research, and communicate effectively. We believe all graduates should have a clearly articulated post-secondary plan in addition to demonstrating success in all core academic subjects. Graduates will also demonstrate their awareness of and academic preparedness in the fields of medicine, law, and public policy by contributing constructively to these arenas in the greater San Antonio community.

Academic Accomplishments at Fox Tech

As students progress through the curriculum at Fox Tech, there are particular assessments that serve as proof of successful learning. Such assessments might include the completion of comprehensive academic research projects, collaborative community-based projects, and authentic ethical simulations. Students will gradually learn to produce professional quality documents, and to deliver public presentations with the appropriate verbal and written skills. Fox Tech students will exercise effective study habits that will support their success on the state end-of-course exams in all core academic subjects, and on the college board advanced placement tests in (minimally) biology and government.

Academic Learning at Fox Tech

In order to become a successful Fox Tech graduate, students will engage in a range of learning experiences to allow them the appropriate time and practice necessary to become academically skilled and prepared for college. The Fox Tech faculty has identified the following set of foundational learning experiences:

• § Internships: Observe and participate in professional settings, reflect on experiences, analyze learning, and share thoughts in written and verbal form
• § Research Projects: Practice asking and answering questions, using databases, and conducting purposeful research on relevant topics
• § Debate and Defense: Practice with public speaking and writing and defense of ideas
• § Facilitation: Leading class discussions, formally mentoring younger students, and tutoring peers
• § Reflection: reflecting on personal, educational, and pre-professional aspirations, resources, and journey
• § Organization of Work and Time: Learn and practice strategies and systems of organization (AVID binder)
• § Archiving Work: Maintain an archive of learning artifacts over all four years of high school
• § Scholarship: exposure to and practice with content-specific materials, vocabulary, and formats
• § Visiting Scholars and Professionals: exposure to research, academic and professional societies, organizations, and institutions in the field
• § UIL Academic Competitions: co-curricular academic practice, competition, and cooperation
• § Capstone Portfolio: final defense of learning competencies based on successful storage and public showcase of work
