Fox Tech Athletics
Our Philosophy regarding Athletics here at Fox Tech and SAISD
Our Athletic Program promotes the physical, mental, moral, and social well-being of our students. The athletic program is an integral part of the total educational process. Athletics provide opportunities for students to develop and utilize athletic talents fully in organized competition with students of similar ability. We feel that the ultimate mission of our Athletic Program as an integral part of the total educational program is to ensure and enhance the quality of life for our students by providing competitive activities that will produce young men and women able to enter the community and become constructive, contributing members of society.
With special concern for students of all ethnic groups and varied backgrounds, here at Fox Tech we assist our students by helping them to realize their full potential relative to their growth and development. Basing our Athletic programs upon participation, community involvement, and recognizes our role as molder of men and women, we are aware of influences of the total environment and so will provide our students with a competitive, varied, and diversified program, designed not only to teach athletic skills but to also instill good character and teach sound values. Therefore, to accomplish our mission here at Fox Tech we provide our students with effective services, based on principles of behavioral guidance which will help achieve health, social, educational, physical, recreational, and cultural development.
What is UIL?
The University Interscholastic League (UIL) was created by The University of Texas at Austin to provide leadership and guidance to public school debate and athletic teachers. Since 1910 the UIL has grown into the largest inter-school organization of its kind in the world. The UIL continues to operate as part of the University of Texas, under the auspices of the Vice President for Diversity & Community Engagement.
The UIL exists to provide educational extracurricular academic, athletic, and music contests. The initials UIL have come to represent quality educational competition administered by school people on an equitable basis.
What is the Purpose of the UIL?
The purpose of the UIL is to organize and properly supervise contests that assist in preparing students for citizenship. It aims to provide healthy, character building, educational activities carried out under rules providing for good sportsmanship and fair play for all participants.
Sensible organized competition under proper controls has demonstrated its value and has furnished inspiration to talented students for many years. The UIL does not provide a contest for every student but does fill the need for those with the physical and intellectual capacity to excel in activities beyond the classroom. The UIL has the active support of most of the school executives, teachers, and citizens in Texas.
Why should we have Interschool Activities?
TEAMWORK! Participation teaches that it is a privilege and an honor to represent one's school. Students learn to win and to lose; to take as well as to give. Self-motivation and intellectual curiosity are essential to the best academic participants. Physical training and good health habits are essential to the best athletes.
Interscholastic competition is a fine way to encourage youngsters to enrich their education and expand their horizons. Leadership and citizenship experiences through interschool activities help prepare students for a more useful and wholesome life.
And it's fun!
Who makes the Rules for UIL Schools?
The Constitution and Contest Rules contains rules for UIL activities and standards of eligibility to be met by students to earn the privilege of representing their schools in interschool contests. These rules apply to participating schools and students. From the beginning, administrators from across Texas have served on UIL committees and helped write and establish rules and administrative guidelines. By voluntary adoption of rules, school people discipline their own interschool activities.
