The Sam Houston Mathematics Department is committed to enriching the lives of our students. We do this by planning well and promoting enriching lessons. Our teachers teach with confidence, and above all patience. They have true compassion for their students with an understanding of how to teach and explain a topic in different ways for the many different learning styles. Our teachers are dedicated to excellence with unwavering support to encourage and believe in our students. It is our willingness to help our students achieve a feeling of accomplishment with mastery. We take great pride in our students’ accomplishments and make an effort to touch lives each day with passion and a daily smile.

Algebra 1: Students will study relations and properties of quantities by means of letters and symbols. Models will be used to demonstrate relations in the form of graphs, tables, verbal descriptions and equations.

Teachers: Kyndell Gresham: Graduated from University of Texas, San Antonio with a B.S. in Mathematics.                                

 Goals for this year: “To give each individual student the knowledge and foundation they will need to successfully continue their exploration in math.

Delicia Smith:        

Goals for this year:My goal is help students get and understanding of math. I want our students to know that math goes beyond High School"

Geometry: Students will engage in spatial exploration, logical and deductive reasoning, as it applies to the real world.

Teachers:

Molly Hunter: Graduate from the University of Texas, San Antonio with a B.S. in Mathematics                      

Goals for this year: “It is my dream that students will experience my classroom as invigorating, and an inspiring environment, a place they look forward to going to and a place they hate to leave. I would like them to become masters of their craft and come to love the process of learning… by making it their own”. inspired by Paideia schools.

Georgina Nava: Graduated from St. Mary’s University with a B.A. in Mathematics; MA in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Texas, San Antonio.                          

 Goals for this year: "I love being apart of the students educational lives and helping them gain a better understanding of mathematics and how it applies in the world around them".

Malachi Nellum: Graduated from Huston-Tillotson College with B.S. in Education; MA in Curriculum from Texas State, San Marcos; Currently enrolled in Texas Southern University working on a Doctrine in Administration.                            

 Goals for the year:My personal goal every year is to try to reprogram students  into letting them know math is not as hard as they think.”

Algebra 2: Students will learn how to represent families of functions, including linear, quadratic, exponential, logarithmic, radical, and rational functions in multiple ways.

Teachers:

Sara Milligan: Graduated from the University of Texas, Austin with a B.S. in Mathematics   

Goals for this year:” I want to share my love for math with all of my students.  I aim to prepare them for college math courses and the ability to use math In their careers.

Lorraine Dominguez: Graduated from Texas A&M, Corpus Christi with a B.S. in Kinesiology,  Health, Certification in Mathematics; MA in Educational Adm. from Texas A & M, Kingsville.                                    

Goals for this year:” To inspire growth, change and accomplishment”

Pre-Calculus and Calculus: Pre-Calculus is a way to get acquainted with Calculus. Calculus is a discipline in mathematics focused on limits, functions, derivatives integrals, and finite series.

Math Intervention: Students will gain support in preparing for the state test.

Cheryl West: Graduated from the University of Texas, San Antonio with a B.S. in Public Relations; MA in Communication; Certification in Mathematics                      

Goals for this year: “To inspire students to dream big and then take steps to make those dreams come true.  I want my students to know that Education          will Empower them to set a course for a bright future for themselves and their community.
