Overall Description of Course

The S.A.I.S.D. Cosmetology program is a sequence of courses that prepare high school students for a career in the field of cosmetology after graduation. The programs emphasis training on safety, first aid, sanitation, bacteriology, state law, rules and regulations, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, skin, hair, nail diseases and disorders, hair treatment, manipulations, hair shaping, hairstyling, artificial hair, hair coloring, hair lightening, artificial hair, braiding, chemical relaxer, reception, sales, salon management, math, reading, writing, computer skill, employability skills, work and salon ethics. Students will have access to user-friendly computer programs that allows the student to easily review cosmetology lesson and take self-tests, which will guide them to successful preparation. This course is designed give students opportunity to apply training required to pass the Texas State Board examination and meet entry level employment requirements.

 

Requirements of the Course

  • $25.00 Fee for Permit, Rules and Regulation Book
  • A Cosmetology Kit to be used at State Board Exam
  • (When, cost and what size varies at every school)
  • A Lab Coat ( color varies at every school)
  • Clinic are held after school, simulate salon setting. To get additional experience and tutoring for freshmen and sophomores. Mandatory for upper classmen.  
  • ( Dates and time varies at every school)
  • Internship is required in 10th, 11th, 12th a total of 32 hours per year.
  • Commitment to pass all academic course throughout high school.
