With its 80-plus years of education, Thomas Jefferson High School has developed an array of traditions.

In honor of its namestake, the school newspaper is The Declaration and the yearbook is The Monticello. The school colors are royal blue, scarlet red, and white.

An early administrator owned a ranch, leading to the western-themed organization names. The school mascot is the mustang. The Lassos dance troupe has drawn interest nationwide, even being featured on a magazine cover. A male dance troupe named the Wranglers was organized in 2012. The Lassos and Wrangers are known for performing rope tricks. The Lariats organization is the entry level dance organization.

The MJRs is a service organization for girls named after Martha Jefferson Randolph.
