Fifth grade student Starr went into lifesaving action by performing the “Heimlech Manuever” on fellow student David  during lunch, on Thursday April 4.  He was choking.  Starr was seated across the lunch table from David and noticed him struggling to get something out of his throat.  It became apparent very quickly, by the look on David’s face, he was in distress.  David had swallowed a potato that lodged in his throat.

    Seated at his regular table with his regular group of friends, Starr noticed something different about her friend.  She said, his face was changing color so she knew something wasn’t right.  “I got up from my seat and went behind him.  He was sitting in the chair and I put my arms around him and pulled.”  Her quick thinking and fast action saved this young mans’ life.  When asked where she learned how to perform the abdominal thrust, she quietly stated “I saw it in a movie”.  Starr is our Kelly Hero, she saw a situation, jumped into action and saved a life.
