SAISD Mission Statement
To transform SAISD into a national model urban school district where
every child graduates and is educated so that he or she is prepared
to be a contributing member of the community.
Mirabeau B. Lamar Elementary School takes pride in its heritage, having served the Mahncke Park community and portions of the Bel Meade neighborhood for more than 70 years. Our school, which serves students in Pre-K through 5th grades, blends historic beauty and charm with modern spaces equipped to provide our students with a 21st-century education.
We are uniquely located within walking distance of first-class educational centers, such as The Witte Museum, The Botanical Garden, Brackenridge Park and the Inspire Community Fine Art Center, with whom we have forged strong partnerships that give our students numerous hands-on learning opportunities throughout the school year. We believe that students learn best when they apply the skills learned in the classroom to real-life situations.
Students strengthen their science and social studies skills with visits to The Witte Museum. A lesson in plant life is just down the road at The Botanical Garden – or even closer, on our school’s very grounds, where students tend to a garden with the help of the Slow Food South Texas organization. These are just some of the ways we engage our students in learning, with the help of our partners.
