This program believes in preparing students for their futures by encouraging academic success, physical fitness, and good citizenship.  It also provides law enforcement occupational skills.

THE EXPLORER PROGRAM

The Boy Scouts of America organizes Explorer Programs in a wide variety of professions.  Explorer Post requires professional sponsorship.  The San Antonio School District Police Department participates in the Police Explorer program through sponsorship of Lanier High School Explorer Post #588

WHAT ARE THE GOALS & OBJECTIVES OF LAW ENFORCEMENT EXPLORING?

• Further the Explorers' education
• Encourage the Explorers' participation in a wide variety of community service activities
• Enhance the Explorers' participation for future roles as citizens, community members, leaders, and future law enforcement officers. 

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF LAW ENFORCEMENT EXPLORING?

• Build individual character
• Develop leadership skills and potential
• Gain appreciation for community service
• Develop good citizenship
• Acquires occupational skills

WHAT ARE THE SIX EXPERIENCE AREAS IN EXPLORING?

CAREER

• Developing a better understanding of America's social, economic and governmental systems.
• Gaining some insight and practical experience in careers.

SOCIAL

• Installing stable personal value firmly based on respect and reputation concepts.
• Developing skill in dealing with all people and encouraging a sense of family and community responsibility.
 

SERVICE

• Encourage the skill and desire to help others.
• Gain a keen respect for the basic rights of others.

LEADERSHIP 

• Encouraging a sense of pride in our American Heritage, by preparing to give leadership to American youth.

FITNESS

• Improving physical, mental and emotional fitness.

OUTDOOR

• Developing a degree of self-reliance based on courage, initiative, and resourcefulness.
• Understanding and appreciating the wise use of resources and the protection of our environment.

THE SAISD POLICE EXPLORER CODE

I state your name do promise to abide by the SAISD Police Explorer Code.

I believe that my strength lies in my courage, my willingness to make a difference, and my desire to do the right thing.

I will respect the unity of the Explorer brotherhood, and assist my fellow Cadets without hesitation.

I will recognize the dignity and value of all humanity, and will enforce the law fairly and without prejudice.

I will appreciate the spirit of my school, respect my heritage, and treasure the value of life.

I will model the Explorer's philosophy, to build good character, have appreciation for community service, and to develop good citizenship.

I will succeed by being a leader, who follows what is true, what is fair, and what is right.

HOW DO YOU QUALIFY FOR LANIER SAISD EXPLORERS?

Both male and female students are encouraged to join the Explorers. To join you must meet the following criteria:

• Be a Lanier High School student currently enrolled in the Criminal Justice Program
• Have a sincere interest in law enforcement or a criminal justice field 
• Maintain good attendance, and all A’s and B’s, or attend tutoring to ensure work is to academic potential
• Have no serious school disciplinary referrals
• Maintain a neat appearance and exhibit a professional behavior
• Pass a thorough background check
• Complete the Basic Explorer Training Program

Command Staff

To be selected as command staff explorers must complete an application and essay expressing an interest.  Selected explorers will be invited to summer leadership where they will receive extensive training and a panel interview by police officers that will make recommendations for promotions.
