Welcome to Horace Mann Fine Arts Academy - 'Home of the Mighty Tigers.'  We are the only charter Middle School in the San Antonio Independent School District, and we are located in the historic Monticello area of San Antonio.

Our school opened in 1935 and was named for Horace Mann, the 'father of public education.'  The building underwent a renovation in 2002 when a new Library and Fine Arts building were added.  Mann's attendance area is bounded by Thomas Jefferson High School to the north and Woodlawn Lake to the south.  Mann's enrollment averages 575 students in grades six through eight and is approximately 94 percent Hispanic, 3 percent African American and 3 percent White.

The school is staffed by 68 employees including 34 teachers with an average of over 10 years of experience and a student to teacher ratio of approximately 20 to 1.  Many of the faculty and staff members hold Master's Degrees and one holds a Doctorate Degree.  Teachers' expertise in their fields has led them to be district, region, or national presenters.

We at Horace Mann Academy are committed to the academic and social development of our students to prepare them to enter high school.  We aim to always be vocal, visible, and vigilant.  We encourage parental involvement and support because with your help, we will reach our goal of exemplary.

Respectfully,

Linda L. Nance, Principal
