| Area III Associate Superintendent Elizabeth Melson and SAISD Board members Mr. Tom Lopez and Doug Sellers recognized Rhodes MS faculty and staff for containing the campus grass fire on January 11, 2008. Assistant Principal Patricia Ortiz was at the helm, Sp. Ed. Teacher Hope Willis and Technology Teacher William Davis quickly controlled the fire with fire extinguishers while Technology Teacher Ray Palencia Jr. and Sp. Ed. Resource Teacher, Robert Crunk controlled road traffic and kept students at bay. Librarian Sara Galindo, Assistant Teresa Garcia, A.P. Secretary Denise Trevino and Attendance Clerk, JoAnne Neavez made emergency calls and managed incoming calls in the office. This is just one of the examples of how Rhodes’ Learning Community goes beyond the call of duty to protect our students. Great teamwork! |

I’m happy to announce that Rhodes MS was the recipient of three Excellence in Education grants which will be used to enhance our Math and Science instructional programs. I would like to thank the Excellence in Education Foundation for giving Rhodes MS an opportunity to share innovative instructional programs with the members of the Rhodes Learning Community. The support received from the outside community is not only an important affirmation to our teachers in the classroom, but also to our students and their parents in recognizing their potential for long term academic and social success. Congratulations to all recipients of this prestigious grant!
