     Welcome to the Counselors Corner

  Guidance and Counseling Program

             The San Antonio ISD Guidance Program delivers services to students, parents and staff through four program components.

   *The Guidance Curriculum component is to help all students develop the basic life skills necessary to be successful.  There are seven areas which have been identified for the guidance curriculum:

  • Self-confidence Development

  • Motivation to Achieve

  • Decision-making, Goal-setting, Planning, and Problem Solving Skills

  • Interpersonal Effectiveness

  • Communication Skills

  • Cross-cultural Effectiveness

  • Responsible Behavior

      *The Responsive Services component addresses the immediate concerns of students.  Topics include:

    • Academic success

    • Child abuse and neglect

    • Severe stress

    • Gang pressures/involvement

    • School drop-outs

      *An Individual Planning system is in place to assist and guide students as they plan, monitor and understand their own educational, career, personal, and social development.

    • Setting goals

    • Assess progress

    • Make decisions that reflect their plans

        *System Support is offered by the counselor to help teachers, staff, parents and other members of the district and community in their efforts in promoting the educational, career, personal, and social development of students.

      • Parent Training

      • Implementing the state tests
