During the week of Feb. 24-28th we will be
administering the STAAR simulation tests in grades 3-5.
This is a great opportunity for the students to practice
the routines and procedures for the actual test days in April.
These are 4 hour timed tests. Please be sure your
student is here on time and stays all day.

Hello my name is Esther Polendo and I am Kate Schenck’s Library Media Specialist or better known as the librarian. I am passionate about reading and in sharing the love of learning with our students. Currently, I am attending the University of North Texas seeking a second Masters in Science majoring in Information Science, I hold a Masters in Education obtained from Our Lady of the Lake University, a Bachelor of Art in Interdisciplinary Studies from The University of Texas At San Antonio, and an Associate in Art from San Antonio College. I have been a Kindergarten teacher for 12 years at Tynan Elementary, a Curriculum Instructional Coordinator for three years at Tynan Elementary, a Pre-Kinder teacher at Carvajal Head Start for one year and a librarian at both Herff and Pershing Elementaries for one year. I am thrilled to be a part of a dynamic teaching staff and honored in joining the team of dedicated administrators, campus staff, and parents whose’ goal is in providing a child center environment to promote student’s academic success.
Kate Schenck Elementary Library’s mission is:
To provide an environment that will promote intellectual curiosity for students, faculty, administrators, and parents in a way that will allow them to locate and select appropriate information, to analyze that information critically, and to use it wisely so that the fostering of information literacy skills and the love of learning is achieved.
