Mark Twain Middle School History in the Making My name is Gary H. F. Pollock, and I am proud to be part of the San Antonio Independent School District family and honored to be the Principal at Mark Twain Middle School. Our district’s mission is to graduate all of our students and prepare them for success in higher education. Our vision is clear and focused. We are determined on improving lives through a quality education. As Principal, I am also committed to building relationships with a number of different organizations within our community. I believe that through collaboration, our school will coordinate resources and services for families, students, businesses, agencies, and other groups. Our desire is to provide services to our community as well as a quality educational program. Mark Twain is rich in tradition. Since 1923 our school has been educating San Antonio’s citizens whose contributions have helped to make the world a better place. SAISD’s core values are commitment, high expectations, respect, integrity, passion, team work, and being student centered. Our Twain family adheres to these core values each and every day when we are teaching the “Bearcats.” In closing, I want to share some of our school’s highlights that demonstrate we hold to our motto “Building a culture of excellence and together, anything is possible.” - Academic enrichment. In addition to meeting all state- and locally-mandated standards, learning is enhanced through challenging Gifted and Talented classes for students who qualify; two computer labs fully equipped with the latest technology; computers in every classroom; access to laptops, projectors, and digital cameras for special projects; and 8th-grade Algebra and Spanish/Health courses for 7th- and 8th-graders who want a jump start on earning high school credit.
