The Wheatley Community School is a unique, community-led project in the EastPoint area of San Antonio, Texas. It is designed to bring together resources and programs within the community to ensure individual and family success through academic enrichment and improvement, job training, adult education, and increased accessibility to community resources and services. Wheatley Community School continues to partner with community organizations to provide a variety of free services to the community.
Phillis Wheatley Educational Opportunity Center (EOC), a U.S. Department of Education funded TRIO program, is an educational outreach program that offers educational services to participants who want to enter or continue postsecondary education. Phillis Wheatley EOC services the educational needs of U.S. citizens or permanent legal residents age 19 and above who reside within the San Antonio Eastside Promise Zone.
Phillis Wheatley EOC supports a variety of potential college student groups including: high school seniors who are transitioning into college; individuals without a high school education interested in obtaining a GED as the first step to prepare for college enrollment; and individuals who are first-generation college students or students looking to re-enroll in college.
Phillis Wheatley EOC offers the following services: Assistance with Financial Aid (F AFSA), College cost planning, scholarship search, college admission wo kshop; Tutoring to help participants prepare for GED exam and College placement exams; Free 40-hour self- paced GED classes; Financial literacy workshops that covers budget planning and banking basics; Career exploration and workforce preparation workshops; College admissions fairs; Enrollment assistance to participants after they are accepted into a college or university and College transition workshops to provide college-bound participants with information about college life and how to reduce anxiety associated with starting college.
Phillis Wheatley EOC services are FREE and we provide one-on-one assessments and group workshop sessions in collaboration with several community partners.
