How to Become a Volunteer

All new mentors/volunteers will need:

  1. One letter of recommendation, preferably from an immediate supervisor, using the SAISD Mentor Recommendation Form [FORM G8-A]; (Mentors ONLY)
  2. An SAISD Application for Mentor and Volunteer Services [FORM G8-B] as needed by the campus community liaison or designee; and
  3. Authorization for Release of Criminal History Records Information [FORM G8-C]. This check is required unless the mentor's/volunteer's employer conducted a current criminal background check. In such cases, written assurance must be obtained from the employeer. The enrollment period to submit the Authorization for Release of Criminal History Records Information is by March 1st of each school year.
    NOTE: Once a volunteer/mentor has been cleared and approved from their Criminal History Records Information (CHRI), the Parent, Community & Business Partnerships Department will issue a Volunteer/Mentor Eligibility Card. This card may be renewed by March 1st of each year, by completing an Authorization for Release of Criminal History Records Information [FORM G8-C]. The Volunteer/Mentor Eligibility Card is valid pending campus verification with any picture identification.
