The San Antonio Young Women's Leadership Academy is a collaborative effort between the Dallas-based Foundation for the Education of Young Women (FEYW) and the San Antonio Independent School District that provides an outstanding opportunity for young women in the SAISD community.
The mission of the Foundation for the Education of Young Women (FEYW) is to support single-sex, college-preparatory, public education in Texas that will give young women in urban schools the academic skills to achieve success in college and life by thinking critically, leading purposefully, and living active, healthy and responsible lives. The organization’s mission is a natural fit with that of SAISD, which his to graduate all of its students and prepare them for success in higher education.
Each of the six FEYW schools in Texas is built upon the organization’s core values of college preparation, responsible leadership and wellness life skills. FEYW formed its first public-private partnership with the Dallas Independent School District, and in August 2004, the first all-girls public school in Texas, the Irma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School, opened its doors. After compiling impressive results in Dallas, FEYW partnered with SAISD in 2007-08. FEYW has additional established academies in Austin, Fort Worth, Houston and Lubbock.
