- 6 composition books (no spirals)
- 2 boxes of 24 ct. colors pencils
- 2 boxes of markers

- 1 containers of chlorox wipes
- 1 bottle of hand sanitizer

- 1 pack of blue or black pens

Young Women’s Leadership Academy Uniform DRESS CODE 2010 - 11

 Students enrolled in Young Women’s Leadership Academy (YWLA) students shall adhere to the following standard in their dress and grooming. Absence from class due to an inappropriate dress and grooming violation will be counted as an unexcused absence.  Dress code rules apply to all classroom and school related activities.  During school-related activities and field trips, sponsors/coaches may obtain permission from the Principal to modify the dress code for specific events.  Dress and grooming that, in the administrator’s judgment, would disrupt the educational process is not allowed. The Administration of YWLA reserves the right to amend this dress code, as necessary, to ensure a safe environment conducive for effective learning.

 Ø  Your cooperation with our dress code helps ensure a safe, productive learning environment for all. 

 Ø  Official YWL Academy ID badges must be worn with a red or blue lanyard at chest level above the waist, with photo/information facing forward and visible.

Ø  YWLA does not allow pictures, emblems, or writings that are lewd, offensive, vulgar, obscene, unpatriotic, culturally biased, tobacco products and/or alcoholic products; drugs and/or other prohibited substances/items are not allowed on any item on campus.

Ø  Students who violate the dress code will:

1.     be asked to have parents bring the appropriate attire; or

2.     student will be assigned ISSC

3.     repeat dress code offenders will be recommended for removal from YWLA.

 

  GENERAL RULE: IF IT’S NOT ON THIS APPROVED DRESS CODE, IT’S NOT APPROVED—

DON’T WEAR IT!

 

Approved for grade 6, 7, 8  leaders

    Approved for grade 9 leaders

Full Dress: All students are expected to wear their plaid skirts, white blouses, and knee high socks every Monday. Ties will be optional in 2010-11, but required in 2011-12 and onward. Students will be notified in advance of any other Full Dress days. Skirts are to be at least at the student’s knees or longer. Exceptions to full dress Mondays will be made at the beginning of the year while awaiting uniform orders to come in. In the event, a plaid skirt has not arrived, 6th grade students may wear navy shorts or pants with white blouse.

                   PANTS/JEANS/SHORTS

All pants and shorts are to be worn at the waist in the appropriate size for the student and will be neatly hemmed.

ü  Dark navy blue knee-length short, flat-front no cuff

ü  Dark navy blue slacks flat-front pants

ü  Plaid shorts  will be optional for 7th and 8th grade students ONLY. 7th and 8th grade students may wear these shorts until phased out in June, 2012. The plaid shorts will no longer be available for purchase

ü  Dark navy blue knee-length, flat-front short, no cuffs

ü  Dark navy blue slacks flat-front pants

 

                                                                              SKIRTS

* Foundation to sponsor 6th grade sweater and skirt, students must be resized by new uniform vendor

ü  Pleated plaid skirt

ü  Pleated plaid skirt

ü  A-line plaid skirt

ü  * 9th grade students may continue using current pleated skirts until they are able to transition into the A-line plaid skirt for high school. All high school students will wear only A-line plaid skirts by the 2011-2012 school year—not pleated style.

              SHIRTS

ü  Short sleeve white over blouse

ü  Red polo-styled shirts are to have the YWLA monogrammed on it.

ü  Under shirts must be solid white.

ü  On Fridays, t-shirts sponsored by the YWLA PTA with a YWLA logo are approved to be worn as outer shirts on Fridays only. The principal will approve each design for school spirit PTA shirts.

ü  Short sleeve white over blouse

ü  Red polo styled shirts w/ YWLA logo monogrammed on it.

ü  Under shirts must be solid white.

ü  T-shirts sponsored by the YWLA PTA with a YWLA logo are approved to be worn as outer shirts on Fridays only. The principal will approve each design for school spirit PTA shirts.

              SHOES/SOCKS

ü  Closed-toed black low-top shoes—no tennis shoes.

ü  Socks—white knee-high socks for Monday full uniform; on other days, white socks must cover the ankle

ü  For PE purposes only, tennis shoes may be worn; but not outside of PE class.

ü  Socks--dark navy blue knee high for Monday full uniform; on other days, white socks must cover the ankle

SWEATERS

ü  Navy blue sweater with YWLA logo

ü  Dark navy blue zip-front hoodie w/ school logo *optional

ü  Red sweater with YWYLA logo optional in 2010-11, but required in 2011 – 12

ü  Dark navy blue zip-front hoodie w/ school logo *optional

            TIES and BACKPACKS

Ties will be optional during 2010 – 11 academic year, but will be required for 2011- 12 for full uniform Mondays.

Backpacks may be solid red, solid navy blue, or solid black

ü  Red ties

ü  navy blue ties

 

    MAKE-UP/Accessories

ü  Bow/ribbons that are red, navy blue, or plaid

(No make-up allowed in middle school grades.)

ü  Clear, black, or brown mascara

ü  Clear lip gloss

ü  Compact powder

ü  Bow/ribbons that are red, navy blue, or plaid

                                                                           Physical Education Uniform                                                          

ü  Red or blue mesh shorts that are no shorter than mid-thigh

ü  Solid grey t-shirt

ü  YWLA grey t-shirt

ü  Students must see Coach Serna regarding any tennis shoe restrictions.

                MISCELLANEOUS

Ø Cell phones are not allowed for use during the instructional day from 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Students using a cell phone during this time will have it confiscated. YWLA will adhere to SAISD cell phone policy.

Ø School phones are available for students to use to use for emergency purposes.

The following are specific for YWLA students and while on YWLA  facilities or while on a school related activity:

1.    No body piercings of any sort, except for one or two earrings total in ears—one in each ear. These earrings are not to be larger than a quarter. No dangling/hanging earrings. No more than one bracelet.

2.    No distracting hairstyles (including, but not limited to, unnatural -colored/dyed/painted hair.)

3.    No sunglasses

4.    No radios, Discmans, IPODs cell phones, walkmans, MP3 players, Gameboys, or other electronic entertainment equipment

Ø No Gang related symbols, graffiti, and markings   on any possession

*** Applications for Uniform Assistance through SAISD will be available in the front office beginning Monday July 26, 2010.  Qualified applicants may be eligible for one free or reduced priced uniform set due to the partnership of YWLA Foundation and SAISD.

 

 

 

 Unique Partnership Starts the School
Located in San Antonio, Texas; the Young Women’s Leadership Academy is made possible by a unique public-private partnership between the San Antonio Independent School District and the Foundation for the Education of Young Women. This unique public-private partnership will also have the support of the Young Women's Leadership Advisory Committee.

The Young Women’s Leadership Academy is an exemplary campus for the year 2008-2009.
