The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a prestigious program offered to students between the ages of 3-19. There are currently over 5000 programs offered in 4000 schools worldwide. The IB program allows students the opportunity to earn up to 24 college credits at the Diploma Program (DP) while still in high school. Students also complete community service hours (CAS) and study a course on critical-thinking skills (Theory of Knowledge) while writing a 4000 word essay. SAISD currently has one existing DP school: Burbank High School.
The International Baccalaureate Department works to advise the existing IB programme within the district while expanding to other campuses, implementing the MYP, PYP and DP programmes in selected schools.
