Dear SAISD Staff:
 
As you are aware, the triple-digit heat that San Antonio is experiencing is taxing a number of older AC systems in our schools. We know this is difficult for those experiencing issues, and we regret the impact it is having on these campuses. 
 
Today we are bringing in 144 mobile AC units for classrooms without working air conditioning. These units cool an area of 600 square feet, and they will remain through August – and September, if needed. While we are seeing improvements on a daily basis, this temporary solution will be in place – especially during this heat – while we work to fix the issues for the long term. 
 
What we are seeing is that the air conditioning issues have been mostly confined to certain classrooms or a hallway – not a full building. Where we have an outage, we have been moving students to cooler areas on or off the campus. 
 
Please know we have a facilities task force in place, and the team has been quickly getting technicians out to the schools to make needed repairs, using both internal staff and external contractors. 
 
Bringing in these mobile AC units will help to resolve the issues as quickly as possible.
 
Additionally, this school year, we also have new logistics for lunch time at some of our high schools, and it has taken a little time to get everyone familiar with the process. 
 
The construction going on requires parts of the buildings to be closed off for the renovation work to be done. With some of these schools, we have set up the cafeteria service area in the auxiliary gyms, and have made accommodations for additional seating in other areas of the campus.
 
Again, we understand the frustration everyone is feeling this week. Thank you for your understanding and patience. Please know we have dedicated staff that are quickly trouble-shooting, getting repairs made, and making the needed accommodations for our students and teachers.
 
We will get through this and continue on to a successful school year.
