Dear SAISD Staff:
We are continuing to develop the details of our plans for the start of school. We understand that some previous correspondence about the return of teachers has been shared on social media – but it is out of date. Working drafts can change daily based on the current environment and guidance from Metro Health, so it is important that you have correct information. Principals will soon be discussing the planning with teachers.
What we do know is that all teachers will receive professional development virtually during the week of Aug. 10. Then, we are looking at the phasing in of teachers through Labor Day, starting with volunteers who are at ease with returning to their classrooms. We would ask these volunteers to become familiar with new safety protocols and share their views on how well new safeguards are working. Adjustments, if needed, will be made before we ask for additional teachers to report to work.
It is important that all adults on each campus are well-oriented with the new safety protocols and routines so we can support students when they enter this new environment. We want to ensure we are fully prepared for the students who will return to in-person instruction after Labor Day, and then to be able to pivot seamlessly as more students return over time.
