11/18/2020
Media Advisory

What:     “The Whittier Express” turns school bus into pep rally on wheels

Who:       Dr. Armando Gallegos, Whittier Middle School principal
Whittier Middle School teachers and staff

When:     Nov. 18 (Wed) – 4 p.m.

Where:    Whittier Middle School, 2101 Edison Drive
School bus will parade up and down neighboring streets

A school bus and numerous teachers’ vehicles will participate in “The Whittier Express,” a motivational parade – or pep rally, if you will – to remind families how much the school cares for its students and wants them to succeed. Banners and posters will share these messages:

• “We miss you”
• “Be in school”
• “School matters”
• “Whittier rocks!”

“The main purpose for our parade is to remind students how much we care about them during this difficult time,” says Dr. Armando Gallegos, principal of Whittier Middle School. “We want to remind them that this is not a time to give up and stop trying. Whether they are learning in person or virtually, we want them to give 110%. There’s always going to be someone at Whittier who believes in you!”

Staff and teachers will begin decorating the bus at the campus as early as 2 p.m., with all participants beginning to gather by 3:30 p.m. The Whittier Express begins rolling through the neighborhood at approximately 4 p.m.

Parents and students in the school boundaries have been notified to be on the lookout for the parade – just in case all the loud merrymaking doesn’t already draw them to the doors and windows of their homes to cheer along with their teachers.
