SAISD provides an Evening FLEX High School for motivated high school students; All virtual school provides a semester of learning in eight weeks
March 30, 2021 – San Antonio ISD has launched an Evening FLEX High School this spring semester. Classes began in late January for 51 students who wanted to accelerate their learning and graduate in three years, or fit additional courses into their daily schedules. The next semester beginning April 6 has 55 students enrolled.

“SAISD’s Evening FLEX High School provides an opportunity for all high school students across the District to earn credit,” said Dr. Paul Riser, principal of SAISD’s Evening FLEX High School. “They can take a class in the evening over the course of eight weeks to clear up some room in their daytime schedule at their home campus.”

FLEX School students meet over Zoom on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. over eight weeks for 16 instructional days. SAISD teachers conduct the courses and each class averages four students, allowing individualized attention.

Currently, students have the opportunity to take classes in English III and IV, algebra II, geometry, math models, economics, government, world geography, world history, integrated physics and chemistry, and art appreciation.

“This program is for highly motivated students; it is intense,” said Riser. “Those who choose this program are not your typical student – they are our high-flyers.”

The night school program is designed to run simultaneously to students’ daytime schedules, and knowing the time commitment, the FLEX school team is highly supportive of students so that they succeed.

The Evening FLEX High School is expected to grow over the next few years and eventually have a central location where FLEX students and teachers go for in-person support.
