Overview

In early 2021, more than 600 SAISD employees will relocate to a new, consolidated administration building located on North Flores Street and adjacent to the Fox Tech High School campus. The new building will be approximately 140,000 square feet and will include conference spaces, a dining space, a wellness center, surface parking and a parking garage. The building, which is near the San Pedro Creek Culture Park, will include 1.65 acres of green space.

No cost to taxpayers

The District will generate approximately $1 million in annual operational savings as a result of the efficiencies of a new, consolidated facility. The construction is at no cost to taxpayers and is funded 100 percent through the previous sales of District real estate.

Currently, SAISD Central Office employees are housed in several buildings across the District averaging 50 years in age. SAISD has been working over the past few years to sell some of its properties with the goal of building a new consolidated central office administration facility on District property.

The District is now able, with funds from sales of District real estate, to construct the building on the football field across from the Fox Tech High School campus.

Parking garage

parking garage conceptThe District and Bexar County are partnering on the construction of a parking garage at the site of the new building. Under the agreement, Bexar County will invest $17.2 million to construct a 600-space garage, to be operated and maintained by the County. Anticipated completion of the garage is by the end of the first quarter of 2021.

SAISD will lease the garage for the exclusive use of its employees during business hours. The garage will be open to the general public on nights and weekends, as well as for event parking – providing the public with greater access to the San Pedro Creek area. photo caption

Prior planning and community engagement

During Summer 2018, SAISD held a series of three public meetings to gather input on the building and site. The meetings were hosted by the District, RVK Architects Inc., and Douglas Architects Inc. The meetings provided an opportunity for the community to engage with members of the project design team, and share ideas through the initial stages of the design process.

In December 2018, SAISD and the San Antonio River Authority hosted another community meeting to review the site plans for the District’s administration building and share how they aligned with the San Pedro Creek improvements and the proposed Cameron and Kingsbury Street work.
