SAISD WCL, SDS Document Library & Hazard Communication Training

In accordance with the Texas Hazard Communication Act (THCA, Texas Health & Safety Code,
Title 6, Subtitle D, Chapter 502) SAISD has a Hazard Communication Program (HCP). As part
of the SAISD HCP Environmental Programs has developed, and continues to update:

The Notice to Employees provides a brief summary of the THCA. The Notice to Employees
should be prominently posted in the workplace. Additional information on the THCA is available
on the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) website.

WCL - Workplace Chemical List
The WCL contains the names and locations of “hazardous chemicals” used and/or stored at
various SAISD facilities / campuses at quantities in excess of 55 gallons or 500 pounds. In
accordance with Section 502.005 Environmental Programs updates the WCL at least annually.
The WCL is accessible to all employees through this website. Copies of the current or past WCLs
can be requested from Environmental Programs (210.354.9300).

SDS
SAISD employees can view, copy and download safety data sheets (SDS) by using the
SDS document library. If you cannot find the SDS for a hazardous chemical used or stored at
an SAISD worksite contact Environmental Programs (210.354.9300).

Requirements regarding obtaining, reviewing and distributing SDSs for each hazardous material
are provided in the SAISD Hazard Communication Program (HCP).

For laboratory chemicals SAISD relies on the campus Science Department chair to retain and
manage current SDSs for chemicals used. Laboratory chemical SDSs can be access through the
Flinn Scientific “Flinn SDS” website or bycontacting the SAISD Science and Curriculum Management
Department at 210-354-4385.

Training
All new custodial and maintenance field employees are provided hazard communication training by
Environmental Programs. Training includes, but is not limited to the topics listed in Section 502.009
(of the THCA).
