    Apply online. Once application is submitted, a case worker will be in contact to assess if an individual qualifies for assistance. 

    City of San Antonio - Fair Housing Program

    Provides individuals and families rent, mortgage, utility and internet access assistance in the event of a hardship. Funds are paid directly to the landlord, financial institution, internet provider and utility provider. In addition, funds for groceries, medicine and fuel, in the form of cash assistance, will be distributed directly to individuals or families in an amount not to exceed $300.

    To apply for assistance, San Antonio residents must:

    • be the primary lease or mortgage holder in a multifamily unit, mobile home, or single-family home within the city limits of San Antonio.
    • provide proof of financial hardship that renders the household unable to pay rent, mortgage or utilities.
    • have an income at or below 100% of the Area Median Income. Under these Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) guidelines, a San Antonio family earning $72,000 a year or below would qualify for the program.

    The application for this program opens on February 15, 2021 at 8:00 A.M. Central Time. This program can help renters with the following costs starting as far back as March 13, 2020 (this means you could potentially request assistance for up to 11 months of past due bills):

    • Past due, current and up to 3 months of expected rent cost
    • Past due, current or up to 3 months of expected utility and home energy expenses
    • After the initial 3 months of forward assistance, you can apply for 3 additional months of assistance if funds are still available

    Community Pipe Repair Program Fund
    This program, provided by SAWS, will prioritize emergency pipe repair that risk causing harm to life, health or safety of the occupants. 

    Department of Human Services
    This program provides housing (rent or mortgage), utility, and internet assistance to qualifying individuals or families during the COVID-19 crisis. In addition, qualifying individuals or families will receive $150-$300 (based on household size) for food and other necessities through the Family Independence Initiative.     Government Disaster Assistance
    Special funding is provided to Texas counties impacted by the winter storm. Application must be completed online, and funding will be administered based on need.

    • The family should have a total gross income that does not exceed 85% of the State Median Income (SMI).

Parents must complete a City of San Antonio (COSA) form and provide proof of income to SAISD. This grant program is for children in Kinder through 8th grade.   • AT&T

    Offering low-cost wireline home Internet service with at least one resident who participates in the SNAP program. In order to qualify, individuals must not have a previous balance with AT&T and their accounts must be in good standings.


    BiblioTech Libraries 

    Offering free hot spots available to check out for 3-week periods to all members. Must be a BiblioTech library card holder and must be at least 16 years of age living in Bexar County with an ID. Hot spots are available for renewal but must be renewed in person at any BiblioTech location. 


    City of San Antonio Parks and Community Centers

    Offering free WiFi services to all citizens available 24/7.



    May qualify for Internet Essentials Program if you are eligible for public assistance programs such as the National School Lunch Program, Housing Assistance, Medicaid, SNAP, SSI and others and do not have outstanding debt to Comcast less than a year old, live in an area where Comcast Internet service is available, etc. Apply online for the Internet Essentials Program and possibly receive 2 free months.


    National Digital Inclusion Alliance
    Database of established, nationally available low-cost plans offered by non-profit organizations. All offers are less than $20/month, total cost (with no installation fee).


    San Antonio Public Libraries
    Offering free WiFi service from your vehicle at 28 public library locations 24/7. Please note: the Briscoe and Pruitt locations are not included in this service.


    Computer lab is also available for 1-hour time slots and homework assistance. Please call ahead of time in order to reserve a time slot. Please be aware, when visiting the library, all individuals will be screened upon arrival and must wear a face mask at all times.
