San Antonio ISD hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony at Tafolla Middle School to celebrate the completion of its Bond 2020-funded upgrades to the campus on March 19th. Tafolla’s principal Irene Cruz served as the MC for the event, which featured speeches from:
Trustee Stephanie Torres, SAISD’s Single Member District 5’s Board Representative
Nicole Sifuentes, Tafolla Student Ambassador
Jenny Arredondo, Chief Operations Officer
Yvonne Little, SAISD’s Senior Executive Director of Capital Development and Construction Services
Jorge Flores, Garza-Bomberger & Associates
Dan Byrom, Vice President of Joeris San Antonio
The ceremony included performances from the Tafolla mariachi with additional participation from the cheer, national honor society, student athletes.
This ceremony marked the completion of Bond 2020 commitments to Tafolla Middle School, part of a larger districtwide effort to modernize and improve SAISD facilities. These investments create enriched academic and extracurricular environments that promote student growth and community pride.
Tafolla first opened in its present location in 1969. The school believes in cultivating a rich academic experience focused on supporting student’s academic track.
Major highlights of the planned work include:
New gymnasium
Renovated existing gym including restrooms, offices, and storage spaces
Renovated fine arts building with updates to the classrooms and mariachi space
Auditorium upgrades including stage, lighting, and curtains
Tafolla Middle School has also received a $5,000 athletics grant from Kellogg & HEB, an initiative to help keep kids active by supporting middle school sports programs.
