Dear Parents and Guardians,

https://shorturl.at/1c9fr

We want to take a moment to emphasize the importance of daily attendance and your partnership in ensuring your child is present and on time each day. School begins promptly at 8:45 a.m. Instruction starts immediately, and every period of the day is important to your child’s academic success.

When students miss class, they miss direct instruction, guided practice, discussions, and opportunities to ask questions. Even a single absence can create gaps in learning that are difficult to recover. Chronic absences often lead to lower grades, increased stress, and, in some cases, delays in earning credits needed for promotion or graduation.

Please be reminded that students must meet the 90% attendance requirement to receive credit for their courses. Failure to meet this requirement will result in an invitation to attend a meeting with a retention specialist through the Bexar County court system. Our goal is always to support families early and prevent students from reaching that point. Current attendance rate for the year is 82.42%

As we approach Spring Break, we encourage you to continue reinforcing the importance of attendance. Friday, March 6th, is a student holiday. Students will return to school on March 16th, which will now serve as a winter weather make-up day. We look forward to welcoming all students back, ready to learn.

Academic Support: We encourage students to stay on top of their learning. For those who need additional help, TSI tutoring is available. Please review the tutoring schedule and the flyer included in this week’s newsletter for more information.

Thank you for your continued support of our students and our school community. Let’s have a great week at Highlands!

💻 Chromebook Responsibility & Accountability (Important)

Chromebooks are an essential instructional tool used daily for learning, testing, and interventions. Recently, we have seen an increase in misplaced Chromebooks and chargers. ensure that your child:

  • Brings their Chromebook to school daily

  • Properly cares for their Chromebook and charger

If a student has lost or misplaced their Chromebook, they must:

  • Visit the library

  • Notify Ms. Ramirez

If your student has a lost or stolen Chromebook, they will be required to complete a Lost or Stolen Device Form, AND IT MUST BE SIGNED BY A PARENT OR GUARDIAN. Please note that there are specific tiers and consequences for each additional loss. Continued loss or damage may result in additional accountability measures.

Thank you for your continued support of our students and our school community. Let’s have a great week at Highlands!
