We want to send a massive THANK YOU to all of our incredible Margil students who participated in our 1st ever Big Texas Read In today!

The energy was amazing as every single student dropped everything to dedicate 30 minutes to reading. This collective effort showcased our school's passion for literacy and entered us into a statewide competition.

Because of your participation, Margil Elementary now has a chance to win $1,000 from HEB to purchase brand-new books and resources for our school library!

We are so proud of our dedicated readers! Stay tuned—we'll share the results as soon as we hear anything.

Parents,

Today we had 35 tardies and 37 students leave early. Please remember:

-Kinder, 1st, and 2nd grade have reading instruction starting at 7:45 a.m. and math in the afternoon.

-3rd, 4th, and 5th grade have math first thing in the morning and reading until 3:00 p.m.

When students arrive late or leave early, they miss critical instruction that impacts their learning. Please help us ensure they are present for the entire school day.

Thank you for your support!

Head Start Parents:
For safety reasons, all Head Start students must be walked to the Head Start doors by an adult (18 or older) every morning. Watching from your car or sending siblings is not allowed. Please follow this Head Start rule to keep all children safe.

Margil Families,
School begins at 7:45 a.m. sharp, and our doors open at 7:15 a.m. Today, we had 61 tardies — this is far too many. When students arrive late, they still need to grab a breakfast and lose valuable instructional reading time, which directly affects their learning. It is critical that your child arrives on time every day so they don’t fall behind.

Good Evening Margil Parents and Families,
We want to share an important update with you regarding student services. Due to Texas Senate Bill 12, parent consent is now required for students to receive care in the nurse’s office (such as ice packs or bandages) as well as services like counseling, social work, or social skills support. Please know that in the event of an emergency....such as a severe injury, allergic reaction, or any life-threatening situation...our staff will always provide immediate care to keep your child safe. To meet the new requirements, all families must either grant or decline consent for their child to receive these services. You can do this quickly and easily by scanning the attached QR code. A paper copy of the consent form was also sent home with your child today. SAISD has set a deadline of Friday, September 5th to complete this step. Thank you for your partnership in helping us continue to provide the very best care and support for your child.

Here are a few important reminders for this week:

1. The tardy bell rings at 7:45 a.m. This morning we had 39 tardies—let’s work together to ensure students arrive on time so they can start their day successfully. Dismissal is at 3:00 p.m.
2. Students in grades K–2 are taking their MAP assessments this week. Please help them be on time and ready to do their best.
3. Breakfast is now being served in the cafeteria, giving students more options to start their morning with a healthy meal.
Thank you for your continued support in helping our students succeed!

Margil Families,
What an amazing first week we’ve had together! From the moment our students walked through the doors, the excitement, energy, and smiles have filled our hallways. It has been such a joy to see them settling into their routines, making new friends, and diving into learning.

Thank you for your partnership, patience, and support as we got the year underway. Your commitment to bringing students to school on time, encouraging their learning, and staying involved makes all the difference. Please remember the change of SAISD's schedule. Margil's tardy bell rings at 7:45 am and dismissal is at 3:00 pm. We will begin tardies tomorrow, Monday, August 18th. Head Start students that are tardy must be signed in at the main office and then walked to the Head Start doors for entrance. Head Start is hand-to-hand with Head Start staff. To continue with our safety plan, parents will no longer be able to walk their child to class and car drop off is in the back of the campus at the gym. Our buses take up a lot of space in the morning and cars are unable to move through Perez Street. Thank you to those parents that are parking and then walking their child if needed. A huge thank you to our volunteers from Broadway bank and Thomas J. Henry for providing school supply kits for all students in grades K-5.

We are looking forward to the many weeks ahead—filled with growth, celebrations, and accomplishments. Together, we will make this school year one to remember!

Thank you again for trusting us with your children each day. We are proud to be part of the Margil community.

With gratitude,

Andrea Castaneda
