July 21 (Mon) – Last day to donate to the SAISD Foundation Annual Dorm Drive

It’s the final week to help the SAISD Foundation in its mission to supply college bound graduates with what they need to succeed. The annual collection drive for dorm room items to benefit San Antonio ISD’s students continuing their education away from home does just that. College dorm essentials, including luggage and travel bags, twin XL bedding, laundry hampers, detergent, and shower caddies may be dropped off at SAISD headquarters lobby at 514 W. Quincy between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. The items will help support up to 200 students from SAISD’s Class of 2025.
July 22 (Tues) – SAISD Foundation hosts recent SAISD graduates in “Beat the Heat” visit to Palo Alto College

“Beat the Heat” has helped SAISD and the SAISD Foundation make significant strides in addressing a critical issue that impacts many of our students: summer melt — the phenomenon where students who intend to enroll in college after high school, but for various reasons, do not. The main feature of the “Beat the Heat” program is the guided campus visit, which allows students to experience college campuses firsthand with the help of trained Postsecondary Navigators. During these visits, students receive hands-on assistance to complete essential tasks such as sending high school transcripts, submitting test scores, addressing financial aid verification, and setting up accommodations through Student Accessibility Services.

San Antonio ISD’s Curriculum and Instruction Early Childhood Department, in partnership with the City of San Antonio, is now accepting applications for its full day Head Start program for Pre-K for children who are ages 3 or 4 by Sept. 1. Families can register in person at Hillcrest Elementary on Wednesday, July 16 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Parents can help set the stage for their child’s future with the Head Start program which offers a strong academic learning environment and a variety of family-friendly support services, including meal services (free breakfast, lunch and snack); dual language (bilingual and English classes); special education services; free school supplies; and family support services. If families cannot attend the summer application events, they may call the SAISD Early Childhood Department at 210-554-2410. Applications are accepted year-round; however, families are encouraged to enroll their children for the fall. Documents required to apply include child’s proof of age; child’s social security card (if applicable); child’s immunization record; parent/guardian photo I.D.; proof of family income; and proof of residence. July 24 (Thurs) – SAISD Foundation Dorm Essentials and Laptop Giveaway

More than 200 SAISD students from the class of 2025 who plan to live in a college dorm their freshman year will pick up FREE items that the community and Amazon donated through the SAISD Foundation’s annual collection drive. This special event is designed to help students transition smoothly into campus life by providing free dorm essentials, including bedding, towels, laundry supplies, shower caddies and travel bags. Goodwill San Antonio will also provide each student with a gift card to shop for luggage, and Compudopt will provide them laptops. In addition, Whataburger will feed every student attending the event.
July 25 (Fri) – Burlington awards grant to Cleto L. Rodriguez Montessori Elementary School

In celebration of their new store, Burlington will donate $5,000 to Cleto L. Rodriguez Montessori Elementary School during their ribbon-cutting at their location near the school. The donation is for their teachers to help them purchase supplies that they need for their classrooms and students. The donation celebrates Burlington joining the San Antonio community near the school’s campus.
