SAISD Foundation hosts recent SAISD graduates in “Beat the Heat” visit to San Antonio College

“Beat the Heat” has helped SAISD and the SAISD Foundation make significant strides in addressing a critical issue that impacts many of our students: summer melt — the phenomenon where students who intend to enroll in college after high school, but for various reasons, do not. The main feature of the “Beat the Heat” program is the guided campus visit, which allows students to experience college campuses firsthand with the help of trained Postsecondary Navigators. During these visits, students receive hands-on assistance to complete essential tasks such as sending high school transcripts, submitting test scores, addressing financial aid verification, and setting up accommodations through Student Accessibility Services.
Aug. 5 (Tues) – SAISD Foundation Laptop Giveaway
5 p.m., Alamo Convocation Center, 110 Tuleta Drive, 78212
The SAISD Foundation, in collaboration with Compudopt, is bridging the digital divide for local students by giving away free refurbished laptops to SAISD Class of 2025 college-bound graduates who need a device for their higher education journey. In a drive-up event for which students pre-registered, 50 laptops will be distributed to our youngest SAISD alumni who are planning to attend a two-year or four-year college or university. This initiative aims to ensure that every student has the tools they need to succeed as they take their next academic step. This is the second laptop giveaway event hosted by the SAISD Foundation this summer.
Aug. 9 (Sat) – 11th annual SAISD Athletics Hall of Fame

San Antonio ISD announces its 11th annual Athletic Hall of Fame celebration this summer. Six honorees will be inducted into the prestigious SAISD Athletic Hall of Fame. They include a retired NFL fan favorite, a basketball giant, a longtime high school football coach, a volleyball great, an NFL pioneer, and a historic two-time state finalist basketball team.
The SAISD Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2025 includes Guido Merkens, Ray Davis, Will Hall, Sharon Neugebauer-Shepard, Weldon Humble and the 2000-01 Lanier High School boys basketball team. Established in 2014, the SAISD Athletic Hall of Fame recognizes alumni who have made a positive impact in sports, either through excellent athletic achievements or excellent athletic program contributions. Since its inception, 47 honorees have been inducted into this prestigious hall. Nominations were received this past year and selection was made by a committee.

The back-to-school bell is officially ringing on this day for SAISD students and staff! Wednesday, Aug. 13 is the first day of school for SAISD campuses with the exception of Democracy Prep, which has its first day on Monday, Aug. 11.
