Sept. 8 (Mon) – Author Visits Collins Garden Elementary School 9 a.m., Collins Garden Elementary School, 167 Harriman Place, 78204
Alda Dobbs, book author of historical novels geared towards children and an SAISD alumna of Knox Elementary School, Harris Middle School, and Brackenridge High School will stop by Collins Garden Elementary School to make a special presentation to the 5th grade class.

Sept. 8 (Mon) – Franklin Elementary School Honors Grandparents
4 p.m., Franklin Elementary School, 1915 W. Olmos Drive, 78201
The stories of grandparents will come to life for students at Franklin Elementary School in honor of Grandparents Day. Students will interview grandparents to learn more about them while also creating a keepsake memory. Ballet Folklorico will perform, and snacks will be served.

Sept.10 (Wed) – Longfellow Middle School Bond 2020 ribbon cutting
4:30 p.m., Longfellow Middle School, 1130 E. Sunshine Drive, 78228
SAISD is hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Longfellow Middle School to celebrate the completion of Phase 1 of its Bond 2020-funded upgrades to the campus. These improvements are part of the district’s broader efforts to modernize facilities and enrich the student learning environment. The event will include student performances, a ceremonial ribbon cutting and student-led campus tours. Major highlights of the completed work include: renovated classrooms, science labs, and special education classrooms; renovated athletic facilities with new gyms and locker rooms; and updated basketball court and sports field. Sept. 11 (Thurs) – Jefferson High School 9/11 Memorial Ceremony
9:30 – 10:30 a.m., Jefferson High School, 723 Donaldson Ave., 78201
To remember the lives lost on September 11 24 years ago, the Jefferson High School JROTC Mustang Battalion will be holding a 9/11 memorial ceremony at the campus flagpole.

Sept. 13 (Sat) – SAISD and the SA Food Bank host food distribution
9 a.m., Sam Houston High School, 4635 E. Houston St., 78220
SAISD and the San Antonio Food Bank are teaming up once again to host a food distribution for our families. SAISD volunteers will work at this event that helps feed our families and students. All SAISD families are welcome. Food kits will be distributed on a first come, first served basis while supplies last.
