SAISD SPOTLIGHT: Sam Houston High School Opens Student Cosmetology Salon
Sam Houston’s Cosmetology program is ready to start taking hair appointments once again! The campus is hosting a grand opening to their Student Salon on September 20 (see below) and invites the public to receive beauty care.
At the grand opening, the community can take a tour of the working salon. Sam Houston High School currently has two dozen students working toward cosmetology certification who will be giving FREE mini facials, hand massages and facial waxes to the public. Students will also be showcasing other cosmetology services on mannequins to promote highlights of the 2025-26 salon season.
“This program is an avenue for so many things,” said Sam Houston Cosmetology instructor Monica Price. “It’s a profession you can enter right after high school and make a lot of money. You can leave high school with a certificate that you can use in everyday life for free.”
Sam Houston High School is one of four high schools in San Antonio ISD offering cosmetology certification to high school students, allowing them access to high-paying jobs immediately following high school, which some students then use to help them access higher education. The program is also offered at Brackenridge, Burbank and Lanier High Schools.
*Ahead of the grand opening of their 2025-2026 salon season, cosmetology students at Sam Houston will be preparing for the big event during their classes Wednesday morning, Sept. 17. Contact our office to set a time to preview the student salon.
