SAISD SPOTLIGHT: Pershing Elementary students learn financial literacy
Starting children off young and teaching them about savings, investments, and real estate helps students learn good, lifelong fiscal habits. The earlier students learn good financial skills, the better their futures will be.
Global Children’s Financial Literacy Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building a solid foundation of financial literacy through their children’s financial literacy book series “Wesley Learns.”
GCFLF was founded by award-winning financial thought leaders Prince Dykes and Chadrick Davis, Navy veterans, friends and collaborators of the popular YouTube channel and podcast “The Investor Show.” Through reflection of their own lives, they recognized a dire need for financial education among young Americans in diverse and underserved communities due to the financial illiteracy of the generations before them.
GCFLF will be at Pershing Elementary school on Monday, Sept. 22 (see below) to teach financial literacy to 5th grade students. Two lucky Pershing students will be selected to receive actual stock certificates at a special luncheon at the J.W. Marriott San Antonio Hill Country resort.

Sept. 20 (Sat) – Hurricane Salon Grand Opening

It’s time for another season of beauty care at the Sam Houston High School student salon grand opening. Sam Houston cosmetology students will be giving FREE mini facials, hand massages and facial waxes to the public. Students will also be showcasing other cosmetology services on mannequins to promote highlights of the 2025-26 salon season.
Sept. 22 (Mon) – Pershing Elementary Financial Literacy program

Representatives from the Global Children's Financial Literacy Foundation will give a financial literacy presentation to Pershing Elementary 5th grade students. The goal is to raise awareness of financial education for children. Two lucky students will be selected to receive stock certificates at a luncheon at the J.W. Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort and Spa.

Sept. 25 (Thurs) – SAISD Viva La Familia 2025 Parent Institute
8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Alamo Convocation Center, 110 Tuleta Drive, 78212
Families are invited to the annual ¡Viva La Familia 2025! Parent Institute hosted by the SAISD Dual Language, ESL & Migrant Department. Families will find a wealth of services and resources available to them through local agencies that will set up in house. Entertainment by the SAISD Mariachi plus breakfast and lunch will be provided.
