SAISD SPOTLIGHT: Whittier Middle School Art class preparing for Artpace DreamLab
Whittier Middle School is among four SAISD schools and only five citywide invited to take part in the Artpace DreamLab event on Saturday, Nov. 15 (see below). Whittier art teachers Nadia Garcia and Rosalinda Leal and their students are invited based on their performance at last year’s TeamWorks Chalk it Up event.
The Whittier team is eager to help create beautiful chalk artwork that once again stands out in the crowd.
*Call to make an appointment to visit Whittier Middle School to talk with Ms. Garcia and Ms. Leal as they are preparing to create some more chalk art magic on November 15.

Nov. 8 (Sat) – SAISD LOTC units at the annual Veterans Day Parade
Noon to 2 p.m., Kick off at Milam Park, 500 W. Commerce St., 78207
All SAISD middle school LOTC units will participate in the 2025 San Antonio Veterans Day Parade in downtown San Antonio. The parade kicks off from Milam Park at noon. Some SAISD campuses will hold Veterans Day ceremonies on Nov. 11. Call SAISD Communications Department for details.
Nov. 8 (Sat) – 2025 Tommy Bowl: Jefferson vs. Edison
2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Alamo Stadium, 110 Tuleta Drive, 78212
The 59th edition of the famed “Tommy Bowl” pits longtime rival football teams from Thomas Jefferson High School and Thomas Edison High School. This year’s rivalry features the Tommy Bowl debut of two new head coaches on both sides: Randy Badillo of Jefferson and David Gibbons of Edison. The Jefferson Mustangs will be looking to secure their playoff positioning, while the Golden Bears of Edison are out to end their season on a high note by beating their archrival.
Nov. 11 (Tues) – SAISD observes Veterans Day
Many SAISD campuses will be observing Veterans Day to pay honor and respect to all veterans, past and present. Families and veterans in the community are invited to attend. The ceremonies listed below are available for coverage:

· Young Men’s Leadership Academy, 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., 415 Gabriel St. 78202

Nov.14 (Fri) – Texas Recycles Day Ribbon Cutting
Noon to 1 p.m., Herff Elementary, 996 S. Hackberry St., 78210
Unilever, H-E-B, SAISD Foundation and City of San Antonio Parks and Recreation are celebrating Texas Recycles Day with an award ceremony to name the winning San Antonio elementary schools that participated in this fall’s recycling contest. This will be the fourth year of this initiative. There will also be a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new outdoor recreation area at San Antonio ISD’s Ferdinand Herff Elementary School, which will feature play and sports areas constructed from recyclable materials.
Nov.15 (Sat) – SAISD campuses at Artpace DreamLab event
Noon to 4 p.m., Awards Ceremony at 3 p.m., 445 N. Main Ave., 78205
For over 30 years, Artpace has enriched and enlivened San Antonio by engaging our community with contemporary art and global art practices. This Saturday features the awards ceremony for this year’s TeamWorks Across San Antonio and community art at the Artpace DreamLab. Four SAISD schools have been invited create special chalk art at DreamLab: Arnold Elementary, Whittier Middle School, Highlands High School and Jefferson High School.
