More than 60 community members, including civic leaders and campus and district staff, gathered in the SAISD District Office Board Room Nov. 13 for the latest meeting of the Children’s Cabinet advisory board. The group came together to review progress toward the district’s 2023 Always Learning strategic management plan and to collaborate on new ways to strengthen support for staff across SAISD.
The meeting opened with a brief review of ongoing work, including this year’s priority areas and a celebration of the annual report presented at the previous quarterly session. From there, the focus shifted to new business - problem-solving and a deeper exploration of how to systematically support the adults who serve SAISD students every day.
“We came together as a community to offer a variety of solutions on how to help schools and their staff feel supported during these challenging times,” said SA Educational Partnership CEO Dr. Ana Acevedo. “I’m impressed by the solutions offered, and I feel hopeful about the ideas that were shared.”
Through a series of collaborative activities, participants brainstormed no- or low-cost partner-supported options to better support teachers. Working in table groups, they generated ideas, organized them into themes, and presented their top recommendations to the full room. Each participant then selected a favorite idea and submitted it on an index card. The SAISD team will synthesize this input to identify patterns, areas of consensus, and standout suggestions.
“It’s great that we’re targeting one or two priorities at every Children’s Cabinet meeting to think through solutions that support the district,” said Leadership SAISD Executive Director Dana Wrann. “In the future, it would be helpful to include even more stakeholders, such as teachers, depending on the focus of the conversation.”
Facilitator and SAISD Director of Strategic Initiatives Kevin Kwiatkowski also revisited the Children’s Cabinet vision of collaboration and action. “Our strategy requires a systemic focus on managing teacher workload and preventing burnout, providing high-quality, job-embedded coaching for principals and teachers, and building clear, transparent pipelines for career growth that retain our best talent,” he said.
Kwiatkowski emphasized the essential role advisory councils play in sustaining strong community partnerships and fostering constructive dialogue, especially as district staff face increasing responsibilities amid declining financial resources and growing student needs.
SAISD Superintendent Jaime Aquino attended the meeting and thanked members of the Children’s Cabinet for serving as ambassadors for the district. He said that as the district advances its Always Learning plan, the Children’s Cabinet will remain a vital partner - bringing diverse perspectives, elevating community voice, and helping ensure that together we enhance the experience and success of our SAISD students.

Más de 60 miembros de la comunidad, incluyendo líderes cívicos y personal del campus y del distrito, se reunieron en la sala de juntas de la oficina del distrito de SAISD el 13 de noviembre para la última reunión de la junta asesora del Gabinete de Niños. El grupo se reunió para revisar el progreso hacia el plan de gestión estratégica de 2023 del distrito, Siempre Aprendiendo y para colaborar con nuevas formas para reforzar el apoyo al personal en SAISD.
La reunión comenzó con un breve repaso de trabajo en curso, incluidas las áreas prioritarias de este año y una celebración del informe anual presentado en la sesión trimestral anterior. A partir de ahí, la atención se centró en nuevos temas: la resolución de problemas y una exploración más profunda de cómo apoyar sistemáticamente a los adultos que atienden a los estudiantes de SAISD todos los días.
“Nos reunimos como comunidad para ofrecer diversas soluciones sobre cómo ayudar a las escuelas y a su personal a sentirse apoyados durante estos tiempos difíciles”, dijo la directora ejecutiva de SA Educational Partnership, la Dra. Ana Acevedo. “Estoy impresionada por las soluciones ofrecidas, y me siento esperanzada por las ideas que se compartieron”.
A través de una serie de actividades colaborativas, los participantes propusieron ideas sobre opciones sin costo o de bajo costo respaldadas por socios para brindar un mejor apoyo a los maestros. Trabajando en grupos, generaron ideas, las organizaron por temas y presentaron sus principales recomendaciones a todos los presentes. Cada participante seleccionó su idea favorita y la escribió en una tarjeta. El equipo de SAISD integrará esta información para identificar patrones, áreas de consenso y sugerencias destacadas.
“Es genial que en cada reunión del Gabinete de Niños nos centremos en una o dos prioridades para pensar en soluciones que apoyen al distrito", afirmó Dana Wrann, directora ejecutiva de Leadership SAISD. “En el futuro, sería útil incluir aún más partes interesadas, como los maestros, dependiendo del enfoque de la conversación”.
El facilitador y director de Iniciativas Estratégicas de SAISD, Kevin Kwiatkowski, volvió a abordar la visión de colaboración y acción del Gabinete de Niños. “Nuestra estrategia requiere un enfoque sistémico en la gestión del volumen de trabajo de los maestros y la prevención del agotamiento, proporcionando una formación de alta calidad que se integre al trabajo para directores y maestros, y crear vías claras y transparentes para el crecimiento profesional que retengan a nuestros mejores talentos", afirmó.
Kwiatkowski enfatizó el papel esencial que juegan los consejos asesores en el mantenimiento de fuertes asociaciones comunitarias y en el fomento del diálogo constructivo, especialmente cuando el personal del distrito enfrenta responsabilidades crecientes en medio de la disminución de los recursos financieros y las crecientes necesidades de los estudiantes.
El superintendente de SAISD, Jaime Aquino, asistió a la reunión y agradeció a los miembros del Gabinete de Niños por servir como embajadores del distrito. Dijo que a medida que el distrito avanza con su plan de Siempre Aprendiendo, el Gabinete de Niños seguirá siendo un socio fundamental, aportando diversas perspectivas, elevando la voz de la comunidad, y ayudando a asegurar que juntos mejoremos la experiencia y el éxito de nuestros estudiantes de SAISD.
