WHAT: San Antonio ISD Dual Language Department and Woodlawn Academy are hosting their annual tamalada, a gathering where family and friends come together to make and eat tamales. It’s a popular traditional cultural event, especially during the holiday season. The event is also an opportunity for students to put into practice the tamal-making lessons they have learned in class and aligns with an International Baccalaureate (I.B.) Learner Profile Attribute that encourages them to understand and appreciate their own culture and being open to the traditions of others.

MORE: The tamalada at Woodlawn Academy is a long-standing tradition of more than 29 years that brings the community together. Students and parents learn how to cook together and enjoy the fruits of their labor. Parents and teachers donate the food and supplies for this event.
