In this season celebrating family and gratitude, San Antonio ISD conducted its second annual Honoring Our Own District Awards. Twenty-one individuals and one team were honored Dec. 2 at the McNay Art Museum.
These awards celebrate and honor individuals and teams who exemplify excellence, leadership, and dedication within SAISD. The awards also recognize the diverse contributions of students, families, community members, educators, and staff in fostering a culture of success, collaboration, and continuous growth.
The awards were divided into four categories, all of which demonstrate SAISD’s leadership definition to Always Grow, Always Model, and Always Achieve.
"It's an honor to be here with you this evening as we acknowledge the extraordinary efforts of those who are shaping the future of San Antonio ISD,” Superintendent Jaime Aquino said. “Tonight, we gather here to recognize incredible individuals. Not only to recognize them, but to actually celebrate the power of dedication, passion and the incredible impact we make as a Familia."
Campus Excellence Awards recognize 10 exemplary school employees (five professional and five paraprofessional) with at least three years of service to SAISD who symbolize the profession’s contributions and commitment to quality education.
Central Office Awards recognize eight exemplary Central Office employees, one District Leader of the Year, and one Team Excellence Award. Recipients are not assigned to a specific campus, must have at least three years of service to SAISD and must symbolize the profession’s contributions and commitment to quality education.
The Toni Thompson Legacy Award is a prestigious honor celebrating an SAISD lifetime educator who has dedicated their life to the profession of education. The recipient must have at least 15 years of experience in SAISD and have made a lasting impact on the lives of students, colleagues, and communities. They must have demonstrated unwavering commitment, outstanding leadership, and a profound dedication to fostering a culture of learning. They must embody the highest standards of excellence in education and serve as inspiring role models for future generations of educators.
The employees who received these awards were chosen from more than 100 total nominations.
The district also honored Jason Mims (Sam Houston, Class of 1971) with the Community Member of the Year Award.
This award is a distinguished honor recognizing one individual whose partnership has made a profound impact across San Antonio ISD. This recognition celebrates their steadfast commitment to empowering students, and they are dedicated to leadership development. Their unwavering support of our mission for student success is invaluable.
This year, the district honors Mims for his transformative volunteerism mentoring students from low-income neighborhoods and connecting them with opportunities for academic excellence.

La excelencia fue reconocida en los premios Honoring Our Own
En esta temporada dedicada a celebrar la familia y la gratitud, San Antonio ISD celebró la segunda edición anual de los premios "Honoring Our Own District Awards". Veintiún individuos y un departamento fueron galardonados el 2 de diciembre en el Museo de Arte McNay.
Estos premios celebran y honran a individuos y equipos que ejemplifican la excelencia, el liderazgo y la dedicación dentro de SAISD. Los premios también reconocen las diversas contribuciones de estudiantes, familias, miembros de la comunidad, educadores y personal al fomento de una cultura de éxito, colaboración y crecimiento continuo.
