The San Antonio ISD Board of Trustees has named Dr. Adrian Bustillos as the lone finalist for Superintendent following a national search informed by extensive community engagement and stakeholder input.

Dr. Bustillos currently serves as Chief Transformation Officer for Aldine ISD, one of the largest and most diverse school districts in Texas. Throughout his career, he has led efforts to increase student outcomes, support school improvement initiatives, expand innovative learning models, and help school systems adapt to meet the changing needs of students and families.

Throughout the process, Board members were drawn to Dr. Bustillos' record of leading improvement efforts in large, complex school systems that serve student populations similar to those of San Antonio ISD. His experience working in environments that offer families diverse educational options and specialized school models aligns closely with SAISD's commitment to innovation and student choice.

“From the beginning, the Board committed to conducting a search process that was driven by the priorities of the San Antonio community," said San Antonio ISD Board President Alicia Sebastian. "Our community told us they wanted a superintendent who could improve student outcomes, support educators, communicate openly, and build on the strengths that already exist across our district. After a rigorous national search, we believe Dr. Bustillos is well-positioned to help SAISD meet the challenges ahead while continuing to expand opportunities for students."

The selection follows a superintendent search process that gathered input from more than 2,400 stakeholders through a district-wide survey, focus groups, and a public town hall meeting. Feedback gathered through that process helped shape the leadership profile used to recruit and evaluate candidates.

The Board's action begins the 21-day waiting period required under Texas law before a superintendent contract can be approved. During that time, Interim Superintendent Toni Thompson will lead the district and ensure a smooth transition.
