Questions & Answers:
Bond 2020 Renovations at Schenck ES

What is the status of renovations at Highland Hills Elementary?
Highland Hills Elementary renovations are currently in design. To help address industry pressures during the pandemic, the bond projects were placed in phases to stagger construction. The Highland Hills renovation project, which is currently in Phase 3, came in over budget, based on initial designs.

When will construction begin on our school?
The district is phasing construction at Highlands Hills to accommodate keeping the students on campus. Phase 1 of construction is expected to begin in April 2025, and Phase 2 is expected to begin upon completion of Phase 2 design in fall 2025.

Will students need to be relocated to another campus during construction?
The district does not anticipate that students will need to be relocated during construction, though some adjustments may need to be made to accommodate the work taking place on campus.

What is included in the renovation?
The Highland Hills Elementary campus is expected to be substantially renovated under the current scope, including classrooms; science labs; cafeteria and kitchen; main office and main entrance; window replacement; mechanical systems; parking lots and driveways; and playground.

Additionally, the campus will receive security and technology upgrades, along with all SAISD schools.

When will we be able to use the newly renovated spaces?
Construction will last about two years from the groundbreaking, and then a move-in date that coincides with a school break would need to be selected for move-in to the new spaces.

How will parents and students have a voice in the process?
The Highland Hills Elementary campus has a Project Advisory Team that includes parents, students, teachers, and community members who represent the larger school community. The group will provide input on the project during the design phase.

How can I stay informed about the progress of the project?
