Dec. 11 (Wed) – Holiday-budgeting workshop
6 p.m., at J.T. Brackenridge Elementary School, 1214 Guadalupe St.

Parents of SAISD students who attend the free workshop, “Jingle in Your Pocket: More Bang for your Holiday Buck,” will learn how to create a holiday budget for gift shopping and event attendance.  

Dec. 12 (Thurs) – Holiday meal planning workshop
9 a.m., at Schenck Elementary School, 101 Kate Schenck Ave.

Parents of SAISD students who attend the free workshop, “Healthy, Easy and Quick Holiday Meals,” will enjoy interactive food demonstrations led by certified chefs and nutrition professionals. The featured menu includes budget-friendly turkey and cranberry dishes.

Dec. 12 (Thurs) – Students use “Bear Bucks” to purchase gifts at holiday store
1 p.m. to 3 p.m., at Briscoe Elementary School, 2015 S. Flores St.

Students at Briscoe Elementary School who have earned “Bear Bucks” this fall will shop the school’s annual Holiday Bazaar, and then participate in a gift-wrapping extravaganza. The holiday store has been filled with donated gift items the children may select for their family members. Children earn “Bear Bucks” by applying for and holding classroom jobs, through good attendance, and as a result of participating in school activities. 

Dec. 13 (Fri) – Hour of Code
8:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., at CAST Tech High School, 637 N. Main Ave.

Students at CAST Tech High School will benefit from an “Hour of Code,” hosted by USAA employees, during the annual initiative by Computer Science Education Week and Code.org to introduce students to coding. USAA employees will discuss coding and STEM careers, as well as how students can apply coding skills in their current lives. 

Dec. 9-15 – Information sessions for SAISD Choice Schools and Programs
At the following times and locations

SAISD offers 42 specialized offerings at 38 campuses with diverse areas of focus and innovative methods of instruction, and more information on each of these can be found at www.saisd.net/apply. All students in Bexar County and surrounding areas are welcome to apply now through Jan. 31, 2020 for the 2020-2021 school year. Information sessions for interested parents and students will be held this week for the following options:

Dec. 9 (Tues)
• 6 p.m., at Rhodes Middle School in the auditorium, 3000 Tampico St.

Dec. 10 (Tues)
• 4:15 p.m., at Advanced Learning Academy-Euclid (PK-3), 621 W. Euclid Ave.
• 4:30 p.m., at Advanced Learning Academy-Fox Tech (4-12), 637 N. Main Ave.
• 5:30 p.m., at Irving Dual Language Academy in the cafeteria, 1300 Delgado St.
• 6 p.m., at Jefferson High School, an IB World School, 723 Donaldson Ave.
• 6 p.m., at Witte Museum for the Young Women’s Leadership Academy: Primary, 3801 Broadway

Dec. 11 (Wed)
• 9 a.m., at Harris Middle School, an IB World School, in the auditorium, 325 Pruitt Ave.
• 9 a.m., at Huppertz Elementary School, IB Candidate School, 247 Bangor Ave. 
• 5:30 p.m., at Steele Montessori Academy, 722 Haggin St.

Dec. 12 (Thurs)
• 6 p.m., at Harris Middle School, an IB World School, in the auditorium, 325 Pruitt Ave.

UPCOMING: Jan. 11 (Sat) – Experience SAISD: Districtwide School Showcase
10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Freeman Coliseum Expo Hall, 3201 E. Houston St.

Representatives from the District’s 90+ schools and numerous departments will be showcased during this family-friendly event featuring food, games, student performances, live demonstrations, and giveaways. School bus transportation will be provided and parking is free. The event is open to families all over Bexar County.
