Oct. 19 (Sat) – EPIC Saturday educator workshop
8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Highlands High School, 3118 Elgin Ave.

Educators throughout SAISD will gather for professional development and collaboration opportunities during this EPIC (Educators Providing Innovative Change) workshop. More than 80 sessions will be offered including 7 Steps to a Language Rich Classroom, Digital Storytelling, Arts Integration, and Laughter Yoga as a Self-Care Tool.

Oct. 21 (Mon) – Business Diversity Vendor Fair and Workshop
1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Burnet Learning Center (Cafeteria), 406 Barrera St.

The business community is invited to this workshop and vendor networking event with guest speaker Jim Swindle. Participants will learn how to get bonded. Refreshments and appetizers will be provided.

Oct. 21 (Mon) – SAISD’s AlamoPROMISE pep rally
6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Alamo Convocation Center, 110 Tuleta Drive

Families and their students are invited to learn about last-dollar scholarships available through AlamoPROMISE, a no-cost college tuition initiative of Alamo Colleges. College representatives will be available to answer questions.

Oct. 22 (Tues) – Montessori information session
5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Steele Montessori Academy, 722 Haggin St.

Parents are invited to learn more about the application process for Steele Montessori Academy – the first and only public Montessori school in the San Antonio area. The application period opens Nov. 5. 

Oct. 22-23 (Tues-Wed) – Annual Pumpkin Patch at Burbank Farm
4:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. at Burbank High School, 1002 Edwards St.

For two evenings, student members of Future Farmers of America at Burbank High School will host the club’s fourth annual Pumpkin Patch at the Burbank Farm. Parking will be available at the SAISD Sport Complex; hayrides will transport families to the farm.

Oct. 24 (Thurs) – Rocket launches
5 p.m. at Pershing Elementary School, 600 Sandmeyer St.

Students in the after school program at Pershing Elementary School will launch their model rockets on a field beside the school – the culminating event in their Rocketry Unit. Multiple types of rockets will be launched including STOMP Rockets, Water Rockets and Estes Rockets.

Oct. 25 (Fri) – Be a Buddy, Not a Bully presentation
8:30 a.m. at Briscoe Elementary School, 2015 S. Flores St.

Students in pre-kindergarten through third grade will take part in an interactive performance of the importance of friendship, put on by H-E-B and its Buddy mascot.

Oct. 25 (Fri) – Pan de Muertos demonstration
8:45 a.m. to 10:23 a.m. at Lanier High School, 1514 W. Cesar E. Chavez Blvd.

Chef Edna Miggins, owner of Panifico Bake Shop, will demonstrate to culinary students the art of making Pan de Muertos, also known as the Day of the Dead bread. Pan de Muertos is prepared all around Mexico in the last days of October and the first days of November and is one of the elements used in the alters set to honor the souls during the Day of the Dead celebrations.

Oct. 25 (Fri) – Fall Festival
5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Travis Early College High School, 1915 N. Main Ave.

This fall festival includes a pumpkin patch, a haunted house, food booths, live music and other family activities.
